I see too many amateurs fear bunkers and consequently produce an uncommitted unconfident stroke...not surprisingly the ball either remains in the sand or disappears over the back of the green.
Here are a few quick tips to try next time you find a green-side bunker.
1 Firstly, pre set the clubface to
open, then grip the club. This allows maximum loft and the bounce of the club to lift the ball out of the
sand.
2 Shuffle your feet into the sand to
gain good balance. Your stance should be outside shoulder width.
3 Position the ball opposite your
sternum, so roughly in the middle of your stance. If the ball is too far back, you will become steep on the
ball thus taking too much sand.
4 You can take a wide, confident swing and impact the sand approximately 2 inches behind the ball. Keep accelerating through impact and feel like your are splashing sand out towards the flag.
5 The loft and bounce of the club will lift the ball out of the sand.
